SACRAMENTO, CA – Gov. Gavin Newsom today signed a bill by Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that helps individuals over the age of 55 advocate for legislative proposals and identify priorities as part of a senior citizen advocacy group. 

SB 309 would require the California Senior Citizen Advocacy Voluntary Contribution Fund to indefinitely remain on the personal income tax form.  The California Senior Legislature advocates on issues important to seniors and is primarily funded through these voluntary contributions via the income tax check-off.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation on Friday that continues a statewide affordable auto insurance program for low-income individuals as well as opens it up to more students.

Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) and California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara partnered on SB 570, which changes the sunset deadline for the California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program to Jan. 1, 2025.  In addition, the bill aligns statute with current practice to allow eligible emancipated 16 and 17 year olds to access the program.

Statement from Senator Susan Rubio:  "The California Senate on Thursday adjourned in memory of the victims of the Aug. 3 El Paso, Texas shooting. This included former San Gabriel Valley residents Maria and Raul Flores. This issue is very personal to me. The shooter’s goal was to hurt and kill people who looked like me. I have roots in El Paso and family still living there today. My heart goes out to all those touched by this tragedy." #ElPasoStrong

The San Gabriel Valley Public Affairs Network organized a luncheon meeting at Baldwin Park, featuring Califonia State Senator Susan Rubio, who represents the 22nd Senate District. Rubio introduced Califonia’s legislative updates to the audience. She said that she hopes to establish good communication between members of the Regional Chamber of Commerce of San Gabriel Valley and elected officials such as herself, and that she is ready to serve the public.

SACRAMENTO, CA –Today, Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) announced that Governor Gavin Newsom signed her legislation to change the make-up of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), the body that oversees the credentialing of all teachers and certificated staff in the state’s public schools. Specifically, SB 478 mandates the CTC to include a certified human resource administrator in a public elementary or secondary school in California.

Two state bills that would prevent the construction of a SR-710 extension tunnel will not include language addressing the possibility that Caltrans would relinquish control of the northern and southern stubs to a local city, according to state officials who were present at a meeting discussing freeway traffic in the San Gabriel Valley.
