SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation on Friday that continues a statewide affordable auto insurance program for low-income individuals as well as opens it up to more students.

Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) and California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara partnered on SB 570, which changes the sunset deadline for the California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program to Jan. 1, 2025.  In addition, the bill aligns statute with current practice to allow eligible emancipated 16 and 17 year olds to access the program.

Statement from Senator Susan Rubio:  "The California Senate on Thursday adjourned in memory of the victims of the Aug. 3 El Paso, Texas shooting. This included former San Gabriel Valley residents Maria and Raul Flores. This issue is very personal to me. The shooter’s goal was to hurt and kill people who looked like me. I have roots in El Paso and family still living there today.

SACRAMENTO, CA –Today, Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) announced that Governor Gavin Newsom signed her legislation to change the make-up of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), the body that oversees the credentialing of all teachers and certificated staff in the state’s public schools.
