A Groundbreaking Achievement: Senator Susan Rubio Secures Over $12 Million for Transformative Community Advancements in San Gabriel Valley

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) proudly declared today that she has successfully procured a remarkable $12.5 million from the state budget, a substantial investment that will be funneled directly into the upliftment of Senate District 22. This funding will bring a transformative impact to the regional communities as it will support an array of significant initiatives.

Senator Rubio states, "I’m proud to work with local leaders to secure district-specific money that will help thousands of my constituents. I look forward to continuing my advocacy for Senate District 22 in ways that best fit our regional needs.”

The significant investments will be channeled towards various projects that promise a range of enhancements in the community. Projects include the establishment of a College of Health and Community Well-Being, creation of a center for small business innovation and entrepreneurship, strengthening of community policing, increased support for homelessness outreach, and safety enhancements for police departments in the region.

Senator Rubio’s 2023 district budget priorities include:

  • University of La Verne’s College of Health and Community Well-Being: $8.5 million. The University of La Verne will use the funds to support the construction of the College of Health and Community Well-Being in order to assist in addressing the critical shortage of trained frontline healthcare professionals in the region. The college will have a meaningful regional impact for students, their families and historically underserved communities in Los Angeles County and Inland Empire. This construction will aid in retaining local talent and expanding healthcare and workforce opportunities in the region.
  •  Small Business and Entrepreneurship Center at East Los Angeles College: $2.5 million. The establishment of the center will provide critical resources to ensure growth in entrepreneurship education and micro-business development.
  • San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments: $1 million. The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments will use this funding to support community policing, homelessness outreach and support services for El Monte, San Dimas, Irwindale, and Azusa.
  •  La Verne Police Department: $200,000. The City of La Verne will use this fund to support public safety enhancements, including police infrastructure.
  •  Baldwin Park Police Department: $300,000. The City of Baldwin Park will use this funding to support public safety enhancements, including upgrading police infrastructure.

The 2023 budget has been approved by the California Legislature and awaits the signature of Governor Newsom for final approval. Further details regarding disbursement will be determined following the Governor’s signature.
