Governor Signs Senator Rubio Bill Protecting Voluntary Funding for Senior Citizen Advocacy Group

September 20, 2019

SACRAMENTO, CA – Gov. Gavin Newsom today signed a bill by Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that helps individuals over the age of 55 advocate for legislative proposals and identify priorities as part of a senior citizen advocacy group.

SB 309 would require the California Senior Citizen Advocacy Voluntary Contribution Fund to indefinitely remain on the personal income tax form.  The California Senior Legislature advocates on issues important to seniors and is primarily funded through these voluntary contributions via the income tax check-off.

“The California Senior Legislature is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older Californians and their families. As the Baby Boomers age, they must have a voice in the future of California,” Sen. Rubio said.

SB 309 mandates that the fund remain on the personal income tax form until January 1, 2025 without having to meet the minimum donation requirement of $250,000. This will provide the opportunity for the CSL’s advocacy activities to continue to allow older Californians participate in the legislative process.
