Senator Rubio’s Statement on Proposed Budget By Governor Newsom

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Susan Rubio, (D-Baldwin Park), released a statement today on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2025-26 budget:

“I applaud Governor Newsom for proposing a budget that invests in some of my top priorities, including continued investments in early education and job training, supporting our local businesses, and improving the state’s response to our housing and homelessness challenges. These are all critical investments that are needed throughout California, and especially in the San Gabriel Valley.

However, wildfires are the biggest crisis of our time and the communities that have been devastated need to be prioritized. We must act aggressively to make California more resilient. Affordability, homelessness, and food insecurity will become even more pronounced after the recent disasters, which is why I am authoring SB 18 to bring more grocery stores into food desert communities to increase access to healthy foods. And our youth, who have already been dealing with incredibly challenging issues over the past few years, will need our support more than ever. Mental health support will be key for them, so I will be introducing legislation to expand mental health education for students that will not only improve their success in school, but also prepare them for a rapidly-changing world.

I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues in the Legislature to ensure our state budget meaningfully addresses the needs of every Californian. Families are relying on us, and we cannot let them down.”
