YWCA COMMUNITY CANDLELIGHT VIGIL FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS

I am really thankful for all the organizations that continue to shine a light on domestic violence. I joined the San Gabriel Valley YWCA Candlelight Vigil and Resource Fair this Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We heard powerful testimony from survivors, and we honored the precious lives we lost. We stand in solidarity with survivors and celebrate their resilience. I was proud to honor the YWCA for this event and their ongoing commitment to empower survivors of domestic violence.

SOUTH EL MONTE
LOVE SHOULDN’T HURT - WALK TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Every year, millions of people in our nation are affected by domestic violence—a critical issue that demands our attention and action. I continue to advocate not only as your Senator but as a survivor, for laws that protect victims and increase awareness. Thank you to City of South El Monte, SPIRITT Family Services, and volunteers for organizing the "Love Shouldn't Hurt - Walk to End Domestic Violence." Together we are taking action and standing against domestic violence.

AZUSA GOLDEN DAYS PARADE

I always have a “nifty” time being part of the Azusa Golden Days Parade. I would like to thank the City of Azusa, the dedicated Azusa Golden Days committee members, and Azusa organizations for such a fun parade. They made sure we celebrated the Roaring 20’s with style. Congratulations on City of Azusa’s Golden Days Celebration!

BALDWIN PARK VOTER ACTIVATION EVENT

I was proud to join my sister Assemblymember Blanca Rubio and the Meruelo Media team in Baldwin Park for the "!Tu Voz, Tu Voto, Tu Vida!" voter activation event.  This event was held to help energize and mobilize our communities to participate in the electoral process.  Members of our community were able to find essential resources, information, and support dedicated to ensure that every eligible voter has the tools they need to make their voice heard.

Make your voice count, make sure to vote by Tuesday, November 5, 2024!

Legislative Updates

According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the United States have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

My Senate Bill 690 (The Phoenix Act 2.0) was signed by the Governor and will become law January 2025.  This legislation extends the statute of limitations from 5 to 7 years for domestic violence victims to give them the necessary time to heal and come forward.

This was possible with the help of fearless voices of survivors and advocates who helped pave the way and set the tone with their hard work.  Our mission to protect victims persists undeterred. Together, we will continue pushing for stronger protections and advocating tirelessly for victims.
