Advisory: Senate Health Leader to Speak at Covered CA Board Meeting

November 16, 2016

Chair of the Senate Health Committee and key proponent of Affordable Care Act (ACA) implementation in California, Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez will present at the Covered CA Board Meeting on Thursday, November 17.

Senator Hernandez (D-West Covina) will emphasize the need to protect health care reforms made under the ACA in the state, citing that more than 3.2 million Californians, who otherwise would be left without insurance, have access to health care because of this law.

Since California fully embraced health care reform and moved aggressively to implement the law, the number of uninsured has dramatically decreased from 17.2 percent in 2013 to 8.6 percent in 2015. This is the largest percentage decline of uninsured in the country.

Recent election results at the federal level may threaten the progress California has made.
