Gov. Newsom Signs Senate Insurance Committee Bill, Increasing Consumer Protections

SACRAMENTO, CA – Gov. Gavin Newsom today signed a bill authored by the Senate Insurance Committee, which Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) chairs, increasing protections for consumers.

Senate Bill 1242, the Committee's biennial Omnibus Bill, increases protections for consumers and makes technical corrections to the California code. The bill requires additional information be provided to consumers of bail bonds, requires licensees to include their license number on emails they send, and increases training requirements on broker-agents to include training on fraud and ethics.

“I would like to extend my thanks to Governor Newsom for signing this Senate Insurance Committee bill,” said Senator Rubio. “After a year of negotiation, we were able to secure several common sense changes to the law agreed to by the Department of Insurance, the insurance industry, and consumer groups that will make insurance more accessible for consumers and better protect them from fraud.”

SB 1242 goes into effect January 1, 2023.

Senator Susan Rubio represents Senate District 22. For more information, visit https://sd22.senate.ca.gov/
