Senator Susan Rubio Delivers $63 Million for Senate District 22
Since 2018, Senator Rubio Has Secured More than $120 Million for the San Gabriel Valley
SACRAMENTO – Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) announced today she secured $63 million from the state budget that will be dedicated to Senate District 22 to create affordable housing, alleviate homelessness, help traumatized children, preserve an important, historic site, and build a new community center in the City of Alhambra. Since being elected in 2018, Senator Rubio has delivered more than $120 million for San Gabriel Valley communities for public safety, parks and open spaces, the arts, nonprofits, community centers, the environment, housing and homelessness initiatives.
"I'm proud to work with local leaders to secure district-specific money that will help thousands of my constituents," said Senator Rubio. "I look forward to continuing my advocacy for Senate District 22 in ways that best fit our regional needs."
Senator Rubio's 2022 district budget priorities include:
- San Gabriel Valley Regional Housing Trust: $30 million. Senator Rubio created the Trust in 2019. The innovative private-public partnership allows communities within the jurisdiction of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments to fund housing to assist the homeless and create affordable housing. It also allows the trust to receive public and private financing and funds for this purpose. She previously secured $25 million to help with these issues.
- New Alhambra Community Center: $25 million. The City of Alhambra will use this funding to expand recreational and educational opportunities through the development of a state-of-the-art 25,425 square foot community center in the heart of the City.
- Inner Circle Children's Advocacy Center (Monterey Park): $3 million. Inner Circle is a nonprofit that provides child abuse services. It helps children who are victims or witnesses of sexual and/or physical abuse and neglect.
- Azusa 'Old Schoolhouse,' known as the Riley School: $3 million. The City of Azusa and Azusa Unified School District will use this funding to help with the relocation and preservation of the Old Schoolhouse, considered the oldest and last remaining one-room schoolhouse in the San Gabriel Valley.
- South Reservoir (Azusa): $2 million. The reservoir is a concrete, above-ground tank with a 2.5 million-gallon storage capacity built in 1921. There are no engineering documents on record associated with this reservoir. This tank is recommended to be replaced immediately because it is a safety hazard.
The 2022-2023 budget has been approved by the California Legislature and awaits the signature of Governor Newsom for final approval. Further details regarding disbursement will be determined following the Governor's signature.
