Dear Neighbors, 

On Monday, Governor Newsom announced California is ready to move into the next phase of the pandemic.  As we begin our transition out of our shelter in place, I first want to give my condolences to all those who lost loved ones during this difficult time. I also want to acknowledge the sacrifices of countless small businesses and workers whose livelihoods have been severely impacted due to the stay at home orders.  Please know we will do everything we possibly can to get them back on their feet again.

I want to thank all the residents who stayed at home as much as they could as well as all the essential workers who kept us safe and provided the necessities for us to flatten the curve. In my district, I was amazed at how quickly our residents came together to collaborate, create and expand programs that helped our neighbors. Collectively, we have all stepped up to take care of each other and give back, and I'm so incredibly grateful to be a part of this community.    

Because of our efforts, we have slowed the spread of the virus, kept our hospitals and ICU's from getting overwhelmed, and ultimately slowed the unnecessary loss of life.

I am proud of the work we have done, but we are not out of the woods yet.  As we move to reopen the state, we have to do so cautiously.  As individuals, we should remain considerate of the health of others, wear face masks in public, and practice physical distancing.  For its part, the state will ramp up testing to track infection rates, spread of the virus, and its impacts on public health.  Personally, as State Senator I will continue to monitor the developments of this pandemic and will share pertinent information as it becomes available.

Like everyone else, I want to get back to normal.  The work to emerge out of this tragedy and rebuild our state will require everyone to do their part, to work together, and to look after each other the way we have been.
