CA Senator Susan Rubio’s Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Abortion Rights Decision

June 24, 2022

SACRAMENTO, CA – State Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) today released a statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organizations, which overrules federal constitutional protections regarding the right to abortion:

“A woman’s right to have control over her own body has vanished. The U.S. Supreme Court decision strips away our reproductive freedom. As the Justices in dissent wrote, “millions of American women…today lost a fundamental constitutional protection.” Despite the fact that for half a century, we have been assured of this right. The Supreme Court’s destructive path will lead them to decide everything in our private lives – including our civil rights and who we marry. We cannot go backwards. We cannot let this stand. I was proud to co-author SCA 10 by Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins to protect the constitutional right in California and will continue to fight vigorously with our allies across this nation until every woman has access to abortion and healthcare.”
