Senator Susan Rubio Statement on Governor Newsom’s 2022-23 Budget Proposal

January 10, 2022

SACRAMENTO, CA –Senator Susan Rubio, D-Baldwin Park, released a statement today on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2022-23 budget:

“I applaud Governor Newsom for proposing a budget that invests in reversing the impacts of climate change; creates more affordable housing and continues investments to tackle the homelessness crisis; supports teachers and students; as well as helps struggling small businesses. As a classroom teacher, I’m also pleased to see larger investments in our children’s education and mental health services. I am particularly thrilled Governor Newsom included funding to expand the Young Child Tax Credit, legislation I pushed for in 2021 and will continue to champion.

As we begin our budget process in the Legislature, I plead with my colleagues and the governor to do more for domestic violence victims. Due to the pandemic, they are increasingly isolated with their abusers and domestic shelters are struggling to keep up with the demand for services. Victims need our help now and we have the resources to do something about it.”

Senator Susan Rubio represents Senate District 22. It includes the cities of Alhambra, Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, El Monte, Industry, Irwindale, La Puente, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, Rosemead, South El Monte, Temple City and West Covina as well as the unincorporated communities of Avocado Heights, Charter Oak, Citrus, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Mayflower Village, North El Monte, South Monrovia Island, South San Gabriel, South San Jose Hills, Valinda, Vincent and West Puente Valley.
