Senator Rubio Selects La Puente Student for College Scholarship

July 10, 2020

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senate Susan Rubio today announced that a City of La Puente student was awarded a $5,000 scholarship through the California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF)

Senator Rubio selected Areli Patino as one of this year’s recipients. Areli will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles.

“I put myself through college, so I know how important financial help can be as you follow your academic career. I want to congratulate Areli for her perseverance and dedication toward her dream, and I look forward to watching her future educational success,” Senator Rubio said.

Given the great need for financial aid amid the current economic crisis, the Foundation increased the number of scholarship recipients this year from 50 to 52, awarding a record total of $260,000 in scholarships. Winners were selected from the highly competitive pool of applicants and evaluated using the following criteria: academic performance, personal statements, extracurricular activities, leadership positions held, special awards and honors received, and work history. Each winner received a $5,000 scholarship, which aids eligible students admitted to or currently enrolled at an accredited college or university.

The Foundation is a charitable, non-profit established to promote and advocate on behalf of the Latino community in California and to educate the public about Latino culture, heritage and issues of importance to Latinos in California.
