Statement: Senator Hernandez on SCOTUS Decision on “Crisis Pregnancy Centers”

June 26, 2018

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator Ed Hernandez, O.D., (D-West Covina) released the following statement on the SCOTUS decision relating to “crisis pregnancy centers.”

“I stand firmly against the U.S. Supreme Court ruling today on what are known as ‘crisis pregnancy centers.’ SCOTUS has set a harmful precedent by allowing these so-called centers to continue deceptive and harmful practices that prevent people, at what is often a very vulnerable moment in their lives, from getting all the facts essential to their medical decisions.

“California has a strong legacy of reproductive freedom and forward-thinking policies, which are most effective when women are fully informed of their rights and available services. Family planning and pregnancy decisions are time-sensitive, and women and men should receive all the information that helps them make well-informed decisions at any place they seek care.

“I’m proud to have championed numerous laws that have expanded access to sexual and reproductive health care in California. We must continue doing more because everyone deserves access to vital information on these essential services.”
