Senator Ed Hernandez, O.D.

Dear Friends,

The month of September is designated as National Preparedness Month. And a great reminder for us to update our personal emergency kits. (And build one for family members too!)

Take a few minutes to change out expired items in your personal emergency kits and replace them with fresh items; like personal prescription medication, expired bottled water and foods, and old batteries. Keep in mind that your supplies should last at least 72 hours after a disaster which is the estimated time when local officials and relief workers will be on scene, but will not be able to reach everyone immediately. Getting children, family members and neighbors involved with building a disaster supply kit, helps teach them about the importance of preparation and can open up conversations about how to survive after a disaster.

Here are a few links that can help you get your kits started.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (626)430-2499.

Let's be prepared together!

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Ed Hernandez, O.D.
