Dr. Ed takes leadership role for the San Gabriel Valley

December 6, 2007

California State Assemblymember Dr. Ed Hernandez (D-West Covina) took on another leadership role Tuesday as the new Chair of the San Gabriel Valley Legislative Caucus.

“I was proud to have the support of my colleagues and I look forward to working together, across the aisle, on issues of importance to the San Gabriel Valley”, said Hernandez.

The San Gabriel Valley Caucus is made up of 13 state legislators throughout the region.  With over 2 million people in 31 incorporated cities and numerous unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, the San Gabriel Valley has challenges that cut across multiple jurisdictions.

“I will work with my colleagues in the Caucus to make our voices heard on problems that go beyond city or assembly district boundaries” added Hernandez.

Hernandez has already begun to work on issues of regional importance, having hosted a summit on transportation this past Saturday in West Covina.

“This was the first of many such summits.  We need to hear from the experts – the people who live and work in these communities – so we can be better advocates for them in Sacramento”, said Hernandez.

Hernandez - who was also asked to serve today on the Assembly Committees on Health, Business and Professions, and Budget Subcommittee 1 – has said that in addition to health care reform, he will make transportation funding and economic development his top legislative priorities.
