Statement: Senate Health Leader Issues a Statement on Proposed ACA Replacement

March 6, 2017

SACRAMENTO – Senator Ed Hernandez, O.D., (D-West Covina) issued the following statement on the House Republicans’ plan to replace the Affordable Care Act:

“I will have more to say about the Republican proposals to repeal the ACA after I have had time to give them a careful read. However, based on what I’ve seen and heard so far, these proposals will still result in the exact opposite of what they have promised during all their years of bashing the ACA.

“Under this Republican plan, we will see higher out-of-pocket costs, more people without insurance, and much less comprehensive coverage for those who manage to keep their insurance.

“What we have learned in this process is that the Republicans aren’t really interested in trying to address problems in the health insurance market. Instead, repealing the ACA is just one more way they can cut taxes for the wealthy.

“I would have been happy to work on a bipartisan effort to address the rising cost of insurance and limiting out-of-pocket expenses, but that isn’t what this plan is about. This plan is a tax cut for the rich at the expense of insurance coverage for hard working people.”
