Senator Hernandez to Guest Speak at Girl Scouts Imagine: Your STEM Future
Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles and AT&T Team up In National Initiative to Help Advance Underserved High School Girls In Science and Engineering
What: “IMAGINE: Your STEM Future” and having a career in the science, technology, engineering and math fields (STEM). Well this is exactly what the young women of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles will soon explore.
Thanks to a $1 million AT&T Aspire contribution to the Girl Scouts of the USA, local girls scouts will benefit from an IMAGINE educational curriculum designed to help students imagine a future STEM career and spark interest in taking additional STEM courses in high school and college and open doors to new career options.
Los Angeles area Girls Scouts, as well as high school girls from El Monte and South El Monte will team up with AT&T employees and Girls in Tech-Los Angeles to participate in interactive activities and visual experiments, such as extracting DNA from a banana. With guest speakers in attendance and State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez, O.D. kicking-off the event, approximately 100 local teens are expected to benefit from the program. AT&T’s contribution is among the largest gifts ever made to Girls Scouts of the USA going toward STEM programs.
